Graham proposes property tax exemption for small mobile and manufactured homes
'This is a small but proactive step in helping some folks avoid being homeless,' says Graham
Legislation was introduced in Olympia this week to provide a property tax exemption for certain mobile and manufactured homes. The prime sponsor of the bill, Rep. Jenny Graham, said she was thinking about young families, first-time home owners, and the potentially homeless when crafting the measure.
“I remember what it was like in my first home,” said Graham, R-Spokane. “You're pinching pennies trying to get by. While the property tax bill for smaller mobile and manufactured homes doesn't amount to much in state and local coffers, it can mean a world of difference for families and individuals living on the financial edge.
“This is a small but proactive step in helping some folks avoid being homeless,” said Graham.
Her bill, House Bill 2869, would only apply to mobile and manufactured homes valued at $15,000 or less. Graham has strong bipartisan support for the proposal with five Democrat cosponsors.
The 60-day 2020 legislative session is scheduled to end March 12.
